With great sadness my brother Bruce and I announce the passing of our mother Margo Lee, age 97 – a little short of her goal of 100 years!
Margo was born July 19, 1920 in Raymore SK and from the beginning “threw all the paint she could on the canvas of her life”. Mom moved to Winnipeg and married our dad Charlie in 1949. In 1959, she moved the two of us and our older brother David to start a new life in Calgary. In 1967, mom married Lev Baddeley and enjoyed a whole new riverside adventure living in Bowness—actively hosting their social club parties, large family dinners, gardening, and Polynesian entertainers that performed at the Tiki-Tiki night club. Margo was actively involved with Bruce’s North Calgary Jaycees and my Foothills Toastmasters club, and was an enthusiastic volunteer for my Civic and Provincial election campaigns. In 2000 she became single again, and with declining health in 2003, Margo moved to Boardwalk Retirement Community and for the past three years to Wentworth Manor. Margo lived life to the fullest. Her life-long passion was ice-skating, performing in a semi-professional touring group in Manitoba. Other passions included entertaining seniors, Hawaiian dancing, performing in an amateur Opera group, Sherry Kennedy’s singing shows, and especially karaoke. At age 82, her standup comedy routine won the Cheers Project ‘Best New Comedian’ Award. Margo travelled the world with us and Bruce’s sons. Mom especially enjoyed visiting her German relatives and Hawaii trips with Bruce, and joined me for a month long speaking tour to Australia and New Zealand that I will never forget
We are celebrating her life Sunday, July 22 at 2:00 pm at the Bowness Seniors Centre, 6422 35 Avenue NW, reception to follow. Please RSVP to Brian at Brian@customlearning.com if you will be attending. Condolences through Alternatives Funeral Home www.MyAlternatives.ca
